Lead Technician

As a Lead Technician at Electralife you will be part of a select team of Melbourne-based electricians and apprentices renowned for taking great pride in their tidy cabling and precision wiring techniques. A commitment to this high level of care and organisation is expected of anyone considering joining our team.


Our office and display suite in Moorabbin serves as our meeting point where we discuss the tasks for the day, provide product training, and general catch-up space.

In addition to the skills and experience you bring to Electralife as an A-grade electrician, you will be comprehensively trained in the installation and commissioning of the best smart home products:

  • Smart lighting systems (C-Bus, KNX)

  • Multi-room audio systems

  • Security alarms and CCTV

  • IP networks, internet (IoT) products

  • Whole home automation

  • HVAC control

  • Solar power and Battery Systems


About the position

A lead technician is responsible for delivering a smart home project from conception to reality. Starting in the office you will assist in the project’s initial system design then migrating into the field you will wire, install, and manage the on-site works to deliver the project.


On-site your regular responsibilities include ordering materials, wiring cable runs and equipment installation, delegation of tasks and oversight of other staff and apprentices, programming/commissioning, and project management.

Working collaboratively with customer to tailor their home automation system help to deliver their dream home.

Toward completion of the project, you will work closely with the client in tailoring their home automation system to meet their needs and help to deliver their fully intuitive dream home.


What we’re looking for

While you will be comprehensively trained in our products and systems, successful applicants would be required to meet the following criteria prior to applying:

  • A-Grade electrical licence (Victoria)

  • Basic knowledge of computer network systems (IP)

  • Proven skill-set in the application of neat and organised cabling

  • An aptitude for problem solving

  • Well-mannered and able to communicate respectfully with your colleagues and clients.


Our Lead Technicians work collaboratively with the Director, Jayden Crawford, and are assisted on-site by our team of motivated apprentices. This mentoring relationship provides a fantastic opportunity for you to help upskill the next generation of smart home experts.


Our display suite on Chesterville Rd, Moorabbin is central to our projects primarily located across Melbourne’s Bayside and Peninsula suburbs. We have, on occasion, also been sought after to facilitate projects further inland and even interstate. Your day-to-day travel would consist of meeting at the display suite for a daily briefing before departing to site in a company vehicle. Only returning briefly in the afternoon for a high-five.

Key selection criteria

  • A-grade Electrician licence (Victoria)

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Australian Acts and Standards.

  • Demonstrated commitment to high quality services and a culture of continuous learning.

  • High level interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Sound judgement and decision-making ability.

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Commitment to own professional development and learning and open to coaching and practice development.

  • Ability to demonstrate and teach other staff your own knowledge.

  • Ability to navigate Windows/command prompt and all relevant technology including devices which allow for mobility and working remotely.

  • Current Victorian Drivers’ License.

  • Willingness to undertake a Police Check and Working with Children Check.

  • Covid-19 full (two) vaccination (mandatory for Victorian construction works).

  • Your own full set of hand and battery-operated tools.
