Our favourite software package this month goes to:
Control4’s CCTV driver.
Using your existing CCTV cameras, Control4 now leverages cutting edge motion detection technology to create smart events within your system.
E.g.: When a camera detects movement, Control4 can use this event to generate a security action like:
turn on external security lights
send a mobile push notification
or sound an alarm.
WILL THIS WORK WITH ANY MODEL CAMERA?
Yes. However, only the newer generation cameras have the built in analytics to help distinguish between small, inanimate objects (like falling leaves) and person or vehicle movements to guard against false/unwanted nuisance triggering.
DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE ANY ADDITIONAL HARDWARE/SOFTWARE?
No, your existing camera and CCTV driver will only need a (free) software update. However, performing smart actions such as turning on security lights will require you to already have a smart lighting system (like C-bus) already installed.
Let us know and we can of course help you retrofit these products if needed.
IS MOVEMENT DETECTION THEIR ONLY FUNCTION?
No, there are a variety of CCTV analytics available for integration with Control4. Most commonly we utilise the motion event, but other useful smart events are: LPR (licence plate recognition), line crossing detection and unauthorised region entry.
WILL MY CAMERA BE DETECTING MOTION ALL DAY AND NIGHT?
Normally we would set up a smart schedule so it only operates during night-time hours, for example. We can also integrate it into your alarm system, where the camera can activate its smart function only when the alarm is ARMED.
